Rural sites aren't just "further away"

A farm or estate puts demands on power that a suburban property never sees — and they're the places where an outage does the most damage. When the grid drops, it's not just the lights: it's the milking, the grain dryer, the borehole pump, the freezers full of stock and the security on an empty lodge.

These sites tend to share the same awkward mix: long cable runs and difficult access, large motor loads that surge hard when they start, three-phase machinery, and a grid connection at the end of a rural spur that was never robust to begin with. Add the seasonal peaks — lambing and calving, harvest and grain drying, a full house of holiday lets in August — and "usually works" stops being good enough.

We design around how the place runs, not around a catalogue: the loads that genuinely have to ride through an outage, sized honestly, with the electrical work around them handled by the same person who specified the set.

What we do for farms & estates

Power that fits the operation.

01

Standby for the farmhouse & steadings

Automatic backup that keeps heating, water, freezers and essential circuits running through an outage — without anyone having to be there to start it.

02

Three-phase for machinery

Grain dryers, milking parlours, workshops and pumps that need three-phase — supplied where there's no adequate mains, or wired in with the changeover to run it properly.

03

Water pumps & boreholes

The loads that can't simply stop. Sized properly for the surge a pump draws the instant it starts, not just its running figure.

04

Lodges, cottages & holiday lets

Dependable power for let properties and estate cottages, where an outage isn't just an inconvenience — it's a refund and a review.

05

Off-grid & hybrid

Complete independent supply where there's no mains, or generator, solar and battery combined to cut fuel and running hours.

06

Servicing any set

Annual servicing, repair and replacement for generators of any make or age — including equipment we didn't install.

One contractor, start to finish

The person who specs it also wires and services it.

On a farm or estate the generator is rarely a standalone job — it's tied into changeover, distribution, three-phase supplies and the general wiring around it. We handle the lot: the set is sized, installed, commissioned under load and handed over, and the electrical work around it is done by the same person, so it's one point of contact from design to sign-off.

That matters when something needs looking at years later — you're not chasing three different trades to work out whose job it was.

FAQ

Common questions.

Do you work around a live farm or estate operation?
Yes — that's the norm, not the exception. Milking, grain drying, lambing and calving don't stop for an install, so we plan the work around the calendar and the working day, and stage it so the parts of the operation that can't lose power don't.
Can you handle three-phase for machinery?
Yes. Workshops, grain dryers, milking parlours, pumps and estate machinery often need three-phase — either a three-phase generator where there's no adequate supply, or the changeover and distribution work to run it properly. It's routine work for us.
Will you service a generator you didn't install?
Yes — inherited estate plant, a set fitted years ago by someone else, or something nobody's looked at in seasons. A one-off visit and an honest diagnosis is the right start, whatever the make or age. See generator servicing and repair.
Do you travel to remote farms and estates?
Yes. Remote and rural sites are the core of what we do — the Highlands, the north-east, Argyll and beyond. We plan around access and weather so a trip finishes the job. More on our work across Scotland.
